Subaru teasing new WRX S4 model ahead of Japanese debut

The Subaru WRX range is growing just a little bit larger, at least in Japan, with the automaker's teasing announcement of a new version called the S4.

 

Scheduled for a debut on August 25, the vehicle in question will be offered only in Japan and is likely a domestic version of the 2015 WRX. The “S4” in the name probably stands for a 4-door sedan.

 

The WRX was officially revealed during the Los Angeles Auto Show last year and is already on sale in the USA and Australia. For these two markets the vehicle is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter boxer four-cylinder engine that develops 268 bhp (200 kW) and 258 lb-ft (349 Nm) of torque. This unit will likely be offered in Japan in two versions - one with a six-speed manual transmission and one with a Sport Lineatronic CVT automatic transmission.
