Hyundai has released new details about the 2016 Sonata Plug-in Hybrid.
Currently arriving at dealerships, the eco-friendly model comes nicely equipped with a power driver's seat, dual-zone automatic climate control and an infotainment system with an 8-inch display and GPS navigation. The model also has heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a Dimension audio system. Other highlights include a hands-free Smart Trunk, 17-inch "Eco-spoke" alloy wheels and a Blind Spot Detection System with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert.
The range-topping Sonata Plug-in Hybrid Limited goes one step further as it boasts HID Xenon headlights, a heated steering wheel and leather upholstery. Drivers will also find ventilated front seats, woodgrain trim and an Infinity premium audio system. The model also comes with a six-way power passenger seat and a Smart Cruise Control system with a Start/Stop capability.
Power is provided by a plug-in hybrid powertrain that consists of 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, an electric motor and a 9.8 kWh lithium polymer battery. This setup enables the model to produce a combined maximum output of 202 bhp (150 kW). More importantly, the car boasts a class-leading 27 mile (43.3 km) electric-only range.
When the battery is depleted, it can be recharged in less than nine hours with a 120V power outlet or less than three hours with a 240V charging station.
Pricing starts at $34,600 for the entry-level model and $38,600 for the Limited variant. However, both are eligible for a $4,919 federal tax credit which effectively lowers the price to $29,681 and $33,681, respectively.
