Bugatti Chiron Targa reportedly coming in 2018

Bugatti is putting the finishing touches on the highly-anticipated Chiron and a new report is indicating the company will introduce a targa variant in 2018.

 

According to Autovisie's sources, the French supercar will be offered as a coupe as well as a targa variant that features removable carbon fiber roof panels. The latter model will reportedly have a "T-bar" connecting the windscreen to the rear of the vehicle, so it remains structurally sound at high speeds.

 

Bugatti has remained tight-lipped about the car but previous reports have suggested it will use a quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 engine that develops 1,500 PS (1,479 bhp / 1,103 kW) and 1,500 Nm (1,107 lb-ft) of torque. The engine will reportedly be connected to a seven-speed DSG transmission and an all-wheel drive system which will enable the model to rocket from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 2.3 seconds.

 

Production will reportedly be limited to 500 units but the company is rumored to be sitting on at least 120 orders. However, buyers are in for a bit of a wait as the first deliveries are slated for 2017.

 

Buyers will also have to shell out a significant chunk of change as Bugatti is reportedly asking for a €200,000 ($212,863) initial deposit, a second deposit of €900,000 ($957,523) and then the remaining balance. This could push the final transaction price to somewhere between €2.2-2.5 ($2.3-2.6) million.
