2017 Ford Focus Electric teased, will have a new DC fast-charge system

Ford has announced plans to invest $4.5 billion in electrified vehicle solutions by 2020.

 

While electric vehicles haven't made much of an impact on sales of petrol and diesel vehicles, Ford is hoping to change that by adding 13 new electrified vehicles to its lineup by 2020. The company went on to say that more than 40 percent of its global lineup will offer an electrified variant by the end of the decade.

 

Things will kick off next year when Ford introduces the new Focus Electric. The model will come with an all-new DC fast-charge system that will enable owners to recharge the batteries to 80 percent capacity in approximately 30 minutes. The relatively short charging period should enable owners to travel approximately 100 miles on electricity alone.

 

Besides the new charging system, the Focus Electric will have a SmartGauge with an EcoGuide LCD Instrument Cluster. Ford says the instrument cluster will have a "multitude of customizable displays" that can help drivers monitor their energy usage and adjust their driving according.

 

The model will also have a unique Brake Coach that will teach the driver how to maximize the energy captured through the car's Regenerative Braking System. Ford went on to say the model will have agile steering and handling as well as a fun-to-drive character.

 

The new Focus Electric will go into production late next year and the model will be offered in North America and Europe.
