BMW M2, X4 M40i with world premieres in Detroit

BMW will stage the North American debuts of several major products at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show, including the M2 and the X4 M40i, making global premieres.

 

Both models received online debuts in October this year and are ready to share the Bavarian company’s stand at the 2016 North American International Auto Show, taking place in Detroit from 11 to 24 January.

 

Bimmer fans in the US will be happy to take a look at the new M2, described by many as the true spiritual successor of the classic E30 M3. It has a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six petrol engine, pushing out 365 hp (268 kW) and 343 lb-ft (464 Nm) of torque with a 369 lb-ft (499 Nm) overboost function. It can be mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. 0-62 mpg (0-100 km/h) acceleration takes 4.4 seconds (manual) or 4.2 seconds (automatic). The model will arrive in US dealerships in spring 2016.

 

The most powerful X4 in the range will also make its first public appearance in Detroit. The M40i will show its 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder engine with 360 hp (265 kW) and 343 lb-ft (465 Nm) of torque that works together with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and an xDrive 4x4 system. US customer deliveries start in February.

BMW will also display the X1, 7-Series, i8, i3, 330e plug-in hybrid, and a selection of other vehicles.
