Bugatti Chiron believed to have 290 mph / 467 kph top speed

New (unconfirmed) details have emerged about the highly-anticipated Bugatti Chiron set to receive its world premiere in Geneva next March.

It seems the Veyron replacement will have 1,500 horsepower and 1,107 pound-feet (1,500 newton meters) of torque generated by an evolution of the quad-turbocharged W16 8.0-liter engine featuring electrical assistance.

The report goes on to specify the Chiron will run the 0-62 miles per hour (0-100 kilometers per hour) sprint in an amazing 2.2 seconds and will be capable of hitting a maximum velocity of 290 mph (467 kph). These astonishing figures have apparently convinced more than 130 customers to place an order for what will be the fastest car ever.

Production will allegedly be limited to 500 units and Bugatti will assemble 100 cars per year, so the model’s life cycle will stand at five years. As far as pricing is concerned, the report mentions it will kick off at $2.19M (€2M / ￡1.47M). This probably refers strictly to the coupe as the Targa version will probably cost significantly more once it will come out around 2018.

It should be mentioned the rumored 500-unit production run likely includes the open-top derivative and this five-year life cycle is half compared to the Veyron's lengthy 10-year, 450-unit run.

Taking into account the Chiron will go public in Geneva, maybe Bugatti will show the new hypercar online in February.
