奔驰近日宣布不会推出双门和敞篷SUV，车厂认为这类车不具备商业价值。戴姆勒设计主管Gorden Wagener表示，SUV客户更需要实用性和宽敞空间。奔驰没有开发双门SUV的计划，而敞篷SUV则是奔驰最不愿意开发的车型。他还表示，新一代E级车是一款设计先进，造型时尚和富于运动感的车型。Wagener承诺，该车将是同级车型中气动布局最好的车型，它的某些独特设计，包括车身侧面“猫步线”和LED尾灯组将增加车身的“梦幻感”。至于迈巴赫品牌，Wagener称，这款豪华子品牌目前仍处于重新上市的初级阶段，未来将进一步演化。而S级是目前唯一将增加迈巴赫豪华版本的车型，但未来将增加E级甚至可能推出GLS级的迈巴赫版本。Wagener表示，插电混动车外观设计与普通车一样，而纯电动车将采用独特造型但前格栅与车厂其他车型一样。

 

Mercedes rules out two-door and cabrio SUVs

Mercedes has announced it has no intentions of launching two-door or cabrio SUVs as the company believes such models don’t represent a viable business case.

 

Daimler’s head of design, Gorden Wagener, told Automotive News that SUV customers want practicality and space. As a consequence, a two-door model with this body style is not being planned, while an open-top SUV is “the last thing” Mercedes will do.

 

He also talked a little bit about the new E Class that he described as being “sophisticated, stylish and sporty.” Wagener promised it will be the most aerodynamic model in its class and will have some unique design elements, such as the side “catwalk line” and LED taillights with a “stardust” appearance.

 

When asked about the Maybach brand, the man responsible with Daimler’s design said the luxury sub-brand is only at the beginning of its relaunch and will take time to evolve. The S-Class is the only model right now to receive a more luxurious Maybach derivative, but it will likely be joined by the E Class and quite possibly by the GLS in the distant future.

 

Wagener also said that while plug-in hybrids will have a design similar to conventionally-powered models, pure electric vehicles will come with unique styling sharing the corporate front grille look.
