2017 Lincoln Continental ready for production with 400-hp biturbo V6

The Lincoln Continental is officially back in business for the 2017 model year and will naturally sit on top of the range.

 

It’s being described as a “serene fullsize sedan” that aims to offer “quiet luxury” to wealthy individuals from America and China starting this fall.

 

Lincoln wasn’t really very generous as far as sharing all the juicy details, but it does say power will come from a biturbo V6 3.0-liter engine that will be exclusive to the brand. The engine has a projected output of 400 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque and aims to deliver “smooth, responsive, yet quiet power.”

 

The fullsize luxury sedan is going to be available with an all-wheel drive system working together with a Dynamic Torque Vectoring system to send torque to the appropriate rear wheel during cornering. Drivers will be able to choose from comfort, normal, and sport modes, and will also take advantage of adaptive cruise control.

 

As far as the interior is concerned, Lincoln tells us the appearance of the Revel speaker grille was chosen after considering more than 200 designs. The heated & cooled front seats can be adjusted in 30 different ways and there are three cabin themes to choose from: Chalet, Thoroughbred, and Rhapsody.

 

To make it feel more upscale, Lincoln has made the cabin quieter by using acoustic laminated glass and an active noise control system. Ford’s premium marque uses the word “opulent” to characterize some of the materials used in the cabin, including the leather upholstery, real wood, aluminum accents, and the leather on the dashboard.

 

Should the car’s large footprint create problems during parking, the 2017 Lincoln Continental will come equipped with a 360-degree camera system creating a bird’s-eye view thanks to a plethora of cameras. In charge of entertainment is the SYNC 3 system, while the panoramic sunroof is something that we’d get as it covers almost the entire roof.

 

Lincoln’s flagship model is programmed to go on sale this fall and will be manufactured at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Michigan.
