Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Hellcat coming before late 2017

Jeep has officially confirmed a SRT Hellcat version of the Grand Cherokee is being planned.

 

In an interview with Vvuzz, Jeep CEO Mike Manley announced the hardcore SUV is going to be introduced before the end of next year. It will likely be powered by the same supercharged 6.2-liter V8 HEMI engine from the Challenger and Charger Hellcats where it churns a monstrous 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque.

 

Some reports are indicating it’s going to be tricky to put 707 hp inside the SUV as the hardware might not be able to cope with all that power. For this reason, don’t be too surprised if the motor will be detuned to achieve the necessary reliability. Even if this happens, the new range-topping Grand Cherokee will still be a lot more powerful than the current 475-hp SRT model. This one sprints to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in 4.8 seconds and tops out at 160 mph (257 kph), so the Hellcat/Trackhawk will be even quicker.

 

It’s too early to talk about the price tag, but obviously it will command a serious premium over the regular Grand Cherokee SRT which kicks off at $64,895.
