2017 Mini Countryman render shows predictable design

The good folks over at OmniAuto.it have sent us their latest render which previews the 2017 Mini Countryman.

 

The new model will adopt an evolutionary design on a bigger scale as the 2017 Countryman is set to grow in size and will become the company’s largest model ever.

 

Despite the increased footprint, the overhauled model will actually be lighter as a result of making the switch to the UKL platform used by the other recent Minis and small BMWs. You can expect the same assortment of turbocharged three- and four-cylinder engines, standard front-wheel drive, and an optional ALL4 arrangement for the beefier motors.

 

The regular 2017 Mini Countryman is programmed to go official at the Paris Motor Show in October, but an online reveal could occur sooner. It will be followed several months later by the flagship John Cooper Works (JCW) featuring a more aggressive body, larger wheels, uprated brakes, and a stiffer suspension. It will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine pushing out 228 horsepower (170 kilowatts) and (320 newton meters) of torque as in the other recent JCW-badged models.

 

Further down the line, there could also be a frugal plug-in hybrid version mixing up a turbocharged three-cylinder 1.5-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor. The rumor mill also talks about a more rugged version featuring better off-road capabilities, standard ALL4, plastic body cladding, and an increased ground clearance.

 

Until then, the regular Mini Countryman is slated to go on sale before the end of the year.
