Ford C-Max facelift spied in Michigan
The Ford C-Max is barely a blip on the automotive radar but hasn't stopped the company from working on a facelifted variant.
Recently caught undergoing testing near Detroit Metropolitan Airport, the updated model has a familiar design but adopts a new front fascia that is expected to be heavily influenced by the facelifted Focus. The camouflage does a pretty good job of hiding the changes but the model will likely have a revised grille and restyled headlights. Additional changes are limited but the model appears to have restyled taillights.
Our spy photographers couldn't get close enough to snap interior pictures but the C-Max could be equipped with a new digital instrument that has a multitude of customizable displays.
Engine options remain unconfirmed but US-spec models are expected to be offered exclusively with hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The current C-Max Hybrid has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle engine, an electric motor, and a 1.4 kilowatt hour lithium-ion battery. This setup enables the car to produce a combined maximum output of 188 horsepower. More importantly, it has an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 42 mpg city / 37 mpg highway / 40 mpg combined.
The C-Max Energi is largely identical but it is a plug-in hybrid with a larger 7.6 kWh lithium-ion battery. This enables the model to travel up to 19 miles on electricity alone.
