2017 Chevy Camaro ZL1 Convertible spied, could have 640 hp

The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Convertible has been caught undergoing testing in Northern Michigan.

 

Dressed in heavy camouflage, the high-performance model will follow in the footsteps of the Camaro ZL1 Coupe and feature an aggressive front fascia with larger air intakes and mesh grille inserts. The car will also be equipped with a bulging hood, sportier side skirts, and a four-tailpipe sports exhaust system. Buyers will also find a retractable soft top that can be opened or closed at speeds up to 30 miles per hour.

 

The interior is largely expected to carryover but there should be a number of minor changes including sports seats, revised instrumentation, and ZL1 badging.

 

Chevrolet has been tight-lipped about the model but the car is expected to use a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine that produces approximately 640 horsepower and 630 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual will likely be standard but an eight-speed automatic transmission should be optional. Regardless of which gearbox is selected, the 2017 Camaro ZL1 Convertible will be significantly faster than its predecessor as the new car will be lighter and more powerful.
