Porsche 911 R spied undisguised ahead of Geneva

The highly-anticipated Porsche 911 R has been spied undisguised ahead of its debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

 

Looking virtually identical to the 911 GT3, the 911 R has a familiar front fascia with large air intakes and a front lip spoiler. The déjà vu design continues out back but the 911 R eschews a rear spoiler and adopts a rear diffuser which is tucked underneath the center-mounted dual exhaust system.

 

Porsche has been relatively tight-lipped about the model but it will reportedly be billed as a high-performance road car that appeals to purists. Give its mission, the model will come sparely equipped in order to save as much weight as possible.

 

Power will likely be provided by a naturally-aspirated 3.8-liter flat-six engine. It produces 475 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque in the 911 GT3 but Porsche could increase the output for use in the 911 R. Regardless of the final numbers, the engine will reportedly be connected exclusively to a six-speed manual transmission.

 

Production will reportedly be limited to 600 units and the model is expected to cost more than $160,000.
