2017 Maserati Levante peels off some disguise
A slightly less camouflaged prototype of the 2017 Maserati Levante SUV has been caught on camera by our spy photographers. The company’s first SUV is currently undergoing final testing and will be revealed in full in a couple of weeks at the Geneva Motor Show.
The prototype spotted here has only a thin layer of camouflage and from what we can see so far it will feature an aggressive front fascia with big air intakes and a bulging hood. The side profile reveals a significantly inclined roofline ending with a prominent spoiler at the back where there’s a menacing exhaust system with quad tips.
It appears to have just about all of the production bits and pieces, including the headlight and taillights clusters. Power will come from an assortment of V6 and V8 engines, but there could also be a plug-in hybrid derivative planned for later in the model’s life. Maserati’s brand manager Giulio Pastore admitted the all-wheel drive system derived from the Quattroporte will give the Levante “credible off-road capability”, but the truth is owners will rarely leave the tarmac.
Perhaps Maserati will be kind enough to reveal the Turin-built Levante online in the following days, prior to a public arrival on March 1.
