BMW 740e hybrid inaugurates iPerformance sub-brand
BMW has launched the iPerformance sub-brand with the introduction of the 740e hybrid.
BMW is quite busy lately as the brand has already revealed the M760Li xDrive flagship model and M Performance parts for the M2 and now it is ready to launch the iPerformance sub-brand. The first car to get the new badges will be 740e iPerformance that will be showcased during the Geneva Motor Show in early March.
The vehicle takes power from a system that combines a four-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit and an electric motor, which together generate an output of 326 horsepower (240 kW). BMW claims the average fuel consumption for the model stands at just 112 miles per gallon (2.1 liters per 100 kilometers) with CO2 emissions of 49 grams per kilometer.
There will also be an AWD version that uses the xDrive all-wheel drive system to distribute the combined power of the combustion engine and electric motor between the front and rear wheels. The new plug-in hybrid luxury sedan will be offered with both standard and long wheelbases.
As for the newly established iPerformance model designation, it will be given to all BMW plug-in hybrid vehicles from July 2016. It provides “a visible indicator of the transfer of technology from BMW i to the BMW core brand,” in the same way the M Performance badge brings BMW M tech to the core BMW models.
The iPerformance models will carry and “i” logo on the front fender and BMW i-inspired blue accents on the kidney grilles and wheel hubs. Customers can also make use of the BMW i 360° ELECTRIC range of products and services that includes the i Wallbox for home charging, the i Remote app, and additional ConnectedDrive Services.
At first, the iPerformance lineup will consists of the X5 xDrive40e, 740Le, 330e, and 2 Series Active Tourer 225xe models, but new vehicles will soon join them.
