2017 Opel Ampera spied looking exactly as you would expect

Spy photos show the 2016 Chevy Volt is getting ready to make the trip to Europe where it will be sold as the 2017 Opel Ampera.It will go on sale next year and obviously will look pretty much the same as its American brother.

 

This prototype doesn’t have all the production-ready bits and pieces as we expect the headlights to have slightly different graphics. The same thing could happen to the taillights and there could be some minor tweaks to the bumpers as well. Looking closely at the front end we noticed the LED daytime running lights have a horizontal position whereas the light-emitting diodes of the Volt are arranged vertically.

 

The new Ampera will carry over the Volt’s hardware arrangement consisting of a 101-hp 1.5-liter four-cylinder range-extending engine, a 149-hp electric motor, and an 18.4-kWh lithium-ion battery. Chevy says the all-new Volt runs to 60 miles (96 kilometers) per hour in 8.4 seconds before it tops out at 98 mph (limited). These figures will likely remain unchanged on the Ampera which should do around 53 miles (85 km) in the city on electric power and 420 miles (675 km) as a hybrid.

 

The Ampera and Ampera-e are coming next year and will be just two of the 29 brand new models Opel plans to launch by 2020.
