SsangYong SIV-2 previews possible midsize SUV

SsangYong has used the 2016 Geneva Motor Show to showcase the SIV-2 SUV development concept.

 

The South Korean company refers to the model as a midsize premium SUV and says it previews a possible future production model. It is the next iteration of the the SIV-1 showcased at Geneva two years ago.

 

The SIV-2 takes the shape of a large SUV with aggressive front end, dominated by large air intakes in the bumper and a set of stylish headlights. Moving back further, we find sharp lines with muscular side profile and massive wheel arches, and a wide C pillar.

 

The cabin features room for four passengers sitting in four individual seats, mounted on the completely flat floor. The dashboard has minimal amount of buttons and most of the controls are performed through a large display and a round button on the center console.

 

The SIV-2 is a mild hybrid car, which means it combines a 1.5-liter direct injection turbocharged petrol engine with a 10-kW electric motor-generator and a 500-Wh lithium ion battery. The 48-V hybrid system offers “quiet and efficient driving, reduced CO2 emissions, and silent running when idling and at slow speeds,” according to the manufacturer.
