TechRules AT96 & GT96 TREV supercar concepts unveiled
China-based TechRules has unveiled the AT96 and GT96 TREV supercar concepts at the Geneva Motor Show.
Designed to showcase the company's new Turbine-Recharging Electric Vehicle (TREV) technology, the concepts are two-door coupes that features a carbon fiber monocoque chassis and a lightweight carbon fiber body. The concepts also have dihedral doors and lightweight 20-inch wheels that are backed up by a high-performance braking system.
Power is provided by a unique plug-in hybrid TREV range extender system that uses a micro-turbine to generate electricity and charge a 20 kilowatt hour Lithium-Manganese-Oxide battery pack.
The AT96 concept is configured to run on aviation kerosene, diesel, or gasoline while the GT96 concept is designed to run on biogas or natural gas.
Both are equipped with the aforementioned TREV range extender system and six electric motors. The front wheels are each powered by a single motor, while both rear wheels are powered by a pair of electric motors. This unique setup enables the car to produce 1,030 horsepower.
TechRules began testing a prototype on the Silverstone race track last month and initial projections indicate the model will be able to accelerate from 0-62 miles per hour in 2.5 seconds before hitting a limited top speed of 217 mph. More importantly, the model has a range in excess of 1,242 miles and a fuel consumption rating 1,569 mpg.
Techrules plans to build a production supercar within the next couple of years and it will eventually be followed by "higher volume city cars" a few years later.
