The new Disco made its first appearance last month at the Paris Motor Show and now it’s getting ready for its U.S. debut scheduled to occur later this week in L.A. Replacing the LR4 in America, the all-new Discovery carries a starting price of $49,990, before factoring in the extra $995 destination and handling charges. For this money, you’ll be getting the base SE model equipped with a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine delivering 340 horsepower (253 kilowatts) and 332 pound-feet (450 Newton-meters) of torque.
If you’d rather have a diesel and the extra torque that comes with it, a 3.0-liter with 254 hp (189 kW) and 443 lb-ft (600 Nm) will be offered for the HSE trim from $58,950 and for the better-equipped HSE Luxury from $65,950. Regardless of engine selection, the 2017 Discovery comes fitted as standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission and is up to 1,000 pounds (453 kilograms) lighter than the old LR4 thanks to the aluminum-intensive construction.
Should you want to go all out, the most expensive Discovery upon launch is going to be the limited-run First Edition kicking off at a cool $73,950. It’s available exclusively with the gasoline engine and adds a plethora of goodies. As such, it comes as standard with 21-inch wheels, LED headlights, All Terrain Progress Control (and Terrain Response 2), blacked-out front grille, and body-colored door handles. On the inside it gets the InControl Touch Pro Navigation system, configurable ambient lighting, and surround camera system with park assist.
Buyers on a strict budget will be happy to hear that even the base SE trim comes generously equipped with features such as a fixed panoramic glass roof, automatic headlights, power-folding heated mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, and 19-inch alloys. Land Rover also bundles rear parking sensors and electrically-powered front seats wrapped in leather, while an eight-inch touchscreen, 60:40-split folding rear seats and a 10-speaker audio system are also on the menu.
